This new international PhD program on Astrophysics, Cosmology and Gravitation (PPGCosmo) aims at giving PhD students the opportunity to develop a successful international scientific career.
The research topics range from theoretical to observational aspects of Astrophysics, Cosmology and Gravitation, including participation in collaborations such as Euclid, J-PAS, DES and LIGO.
PPGCosmo is a Brazilian program consisting of five institutions from Brazil and four institutions outside Brazil.
PPGCosmo is the first Brazilian PhD program in Physics to receive from the Brazilian agency CAPES the starting score 5.
Positions and Fellowships
The student will be supervised by a Professor at a Brazilian institution and co-supervised by one of the four Professors (Amendola, Dodelson, Pacheco or Wands) from the four institutions outside Brazil.
For the compulsory postgraduate courses the student will be mainly based in Vitória-ES. Depending on funding, the student will have the opportunity to visit the other Brazilian participating institutions and to spend one year at the co-supervisor's foreign institution.
The PhD fellowship consists of monthly R$2200 (tax-free). There will be extra support for the year abroad and to attend schools and workshops. Please note that life costs in Vitoria-ES are moderate.

Vitória – the capital of Espírito Santo state, located in the South-eastern coast of Brazil – is a well-connected and pleasant human-sized city. PhD students usually live at walking distance from both the University Campus and the beach.
